About this event

Figaro Comes to Rodmarton Manor

Rodmarton Manor is one of the most complete expressions of Arts and Crafts ideals in England: built between 1909 and 1929 using local stone, hand-sawn oak from the estate, and metalwork from local blacksmiths, with furniture by Ernest Gimson and the Barnsley brothers. It still belongs to the Biddulph family. The eight-acre gardens are laid out as a series of enclosed outdoor rooms, with yew hedges and topiary clipped in domes and tiers.

New Arts brings a fully staged production of Rossini's Barber of Seville to the grounds this August, accompanied by the Phoenix Ensemble and sung in English — the full story of a scheming barber, a count in disguise, and a young woman trying to escape her guardian's control, with Rossini's best-known melodies running through it. No surtitles needed.

Grounds open at 6pm for picnics. Bring your own food, drink and chairs — there are no refreshments on site. The performance goes ahead in all weathers.

Advance tickets required.
