About this event
It started in a pub as many of the best Cotswold traditions tend to, and it's been growing ever since. The Tetbury Woolsack Races take over the town on the May Bank Holiday Monday, and there is genuinely nothing else quite like it.
The race itself is exactly what it sounds like: competitors carry a sack of wool weighing up to 60lbs up and down Gumstool Hill. A punishing 1-in-4 gradient through the heart of Tetbury — as fast as they can. Individuals, teams, and juniors all compete, and the crowd that lines the hill makes it one of the great spectator events in the Cotswolds calendar.
Beyond the racing there's a Market Quarter showcasing local makers and gifts, a Food Quarter packed with street food and gourmet stalls, live entertainment, amusement rides, and sideshows.
A full day out for everyone.
