About this event
Preston turns up in the Domesday Book as "Prestetune", a scatter of farms between the Fairford and Swindon roads that's held at a few hundred residents ever since without losing the habit of putting on a proper fete once a year. It runs for one September afternoon out of the village hall.
Expect the full village-fete lineup: hot dogs and ice creams, a jewellery stall, toys, Pimms for anyone treating it as a proper afternoon out, and Splat the Rat for anyone who fancies swinging a mallet at speed. Parking is free, so there's no need to hunt for a gap along the lanes.
Three hundred-odd residents running trestle tables and a rat-and-mallet stall is the sort of unpretentious afternoon a lot of bigger fetes have forgotten how to do.
Free entry.
