About this event
This is a long way from your standard beekeeping taster. The Natural Beekeeping Trust and Simon Kellam of Just Bee Eco Hives run a six-hour workshop at Westonbirt focused on natural, bee-centred practice — the philosophy and the practical side of working with honeybees in ways that prioritise the colony's own biology rather than maximising honey yield.
The day suits three kinds of attendee: experienced beekeepers who want to explore more sustainable methods, complete beginners, and people who are simply curious about supporting wild honeybees without keeping a hive themselves. Expect to cover colony behaviour, natural comb building, low-intervention management and the principles behind the Trust's approach. Meeting point is the Learning Centre inside the arboretum. Wear trousers and bring your own wellies; a long top or hoodie is recommended. Dogs are not allowed.
