Four Musicians, One Piano Legacy, No Sheet Music in Sight

Fats Waller wrote "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Honeysuckle Rose" while turning the stride piano style of his mentor James P. Johnson into something looser, funnier and entirely his own. Moreton Jazz brings his songbook to St David's Centre with a quartet built for exactly this repertoire.

Pianist Dave Browning leads from the stride tradition itself, joined by Ben Holder on violin, Raph Mizraki on double bass and Mal Garrett on drums. Seating is cabaret-style around tables in the main hall, doors 6:30pm ahead of the 7pm start.

Stride piano rewards a room that's paying attention, and a violin threaded through a Harlem songbook is not something you hear every night in Moreton.
