About this event
The Guiting Music Festival has been drawing serious musicians to this small Cotswold village for over fifty years, and Thursday's concert is a good example of why its reputation holds. Thibault Cauvin is a French classical guitarist of remarkable range: by the age of twenty he had accumulated 36 international competition prizes (13 of them first prizes), more than any guitarist before him, and has since played Carnegie Hall, the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow and the Beijing Forbidden City among other venues.
For this 2026 appearance he brings his Alter Ego programme, which blends original compositions co-written with his brother Jordan Cauvin with material drawn from his extensive travels. It is a departure from the Spanish and Argentine pieces that filled his 2018 Guiting set, and a more personal statement: the album and tour take identity and influence as their thread, and the playing reflects both classical rigour and genuine eclecticism. Solo guitar in a festival marquee is about as direct a musical experience as you can get.
The festival marquee sits on the playing field behind the village hall in Guiting Power, a twenty-minute drive from Stow-on-the-Wold.
