The Voice That Built British Soul, Live in a Cotswolds Marquee

Mica Paris has been the definitive voice of British soul since 1988, when she was 19 and her debut single "My One Temptation" went Top 10. She grew up singing gospel in her grandparents' church, and that foundation has never left her — it is what separates her from every imitator the genre has produced since.

She performs here with her six-piece band, drawing on nearly four decades of material: "My One Temptation", "Where Is the Love" and "Breathe Life Into Me" alongside tracks from her later albums. Paris holds an MBE for services to music and spent years hosting her own soul show on BBC Radio 2 to a million listeners a week. She knows how to work a room, and the Guiting marquee is exactly the kind of intimate space that suits this music.

This is the opening night of the 55th Guiting Music Festival, ten days of classical, jazz and blues anchored in Guiting Power village. Food and drink available at the concert.
