About this event

The Iron Age Coin Hoard From Cotswold Soil

Over 160 silver coins, buried for two thousand years and only recently surfaced — this is the Corinium Museum's first Iron Age hoard, and it's the kind of find that reshapes what we know about who was here long before the Romans arrived.

James Harris, the museum's Collections Engagement Officer, leads this one-hour talk on how the hoard was found and what it represents. The coins are late Iron Age, abstract in design, and attributed to the Dobunni — the tribe that occupied much of what is now Gloucestershire — and Harris will help you read the imagery stamped onto each one. It's not decorative: it's one of the few direct visual records we have of Dobunni identity, pressed into silver and left in the ground.

Tickets are £10, free for museum members. One hour, a room full of coins that haven't been seen for two thousand years, and someone who knows exactly why they matter.
