A Village Band with 120 Years Behind It

Chedworth Silver Band has been playing in the Cotswolds since 1905, when two separate village bands — one of them attached to the Primitive Methodist chapel — merged into a single outfit. They've been a fixture of community music-making in the area ever since, and the Bands in the Park slot in Cirencester's Abbey Grounds is exactly the kind of afternoon they were made for.

The programme pulls from across the traditional brass band repertoire: marches, classical arrangements, show tunes and the odd crowd-pleasing pop cover. Abbey Grounds is one of the nicest settings for this kind of thing in the Cotswolds — open parkland in the centre of town, with plenty of room to spread out a rug and let two hours of live brass wash over you.
