Wiltshire's Oldest Wind Band Comes to Town

Malmesbury Concert Band has been playing in public since 1859 — they led wagon-loads of children to a picnic in 1874, marched through Malmesbury to meet the town's first train in 1877, and in 2009 they celebrated 150 years with a concert in the town hall. This is the real thing: a community band with deep roots and a broad repertoire that ranges from classical pieces to ABBA and Amy Winehouse.

The Bands in the Park series at the Abbey Grounds bandstand is one of Cirencester's genuine summer pleasures. The setting does most of the work — the ruins framing the park, the grass full of people with blankets and dogs and small children — and the music runs from 2:30 to 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon.
