About this event
Catherine Tate spent ten months on the road with the Royal Shakespeare Company before any of the television work landed, playing Smeraldina in a UK, Australian and US tour of The Servant of Two Masters in 2000 and 2001.
The sketch show came after that, and Lauren Cooper's "bovvered" went on to be named a word of the year and very nearly made it into the Oxford English Dictionary. Donna Noble followed, then a season on the US version of The Office, then a return to Doctor Who for the sixtieth-anniversary specials in 2023.
At the Cidermill she sits down with Fiona Lindsay, who has run the talent agency Limelight Celebrity Management since 1989, for an unscripted conversation rather than a performance.
Two hours on how a bit becomes a catchphrase, what survives the move from sketch writing to an American sitcom, and how much of Nan she still can't quite put down.
It's a small stage built for exactly this, close enough that nothing needs to reach the back row.
