About

Dil Raj

Dil Raj has been on Long Street in Dursley since 1989, making it one of the longer-standing Indian restaurants in this part of Gloucestershire. The Abdul brothers opened it as part of what grew into a network of 18 restaurants across the county, but this original site has kept its neighbourhood feel.

The menu covers the full Bangladeshi-Indian spectrum β€” baltis, tandoori dishes, kormas through to madras β€” with a fish menu added after a refurbishment, including tandoori salmon and salmon tikka shashlik, which are worth noting as something beyond the usual curry-house staples.

It holds a Tripadvisor Travellers Choice award and sits consistently near the top of Dursley's restaurant rankings.

The dining room seats around 80 and has been done out with leather seating and contemporary decor β€” comfortable without being stiff. The kitchen handles vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets without fuss, and the price point sits in the mid-range, making it reasonable for a sit-down meal rather than a budget takeaway stop. Takeaway is however available.

Staff are frequently mentioned in reviews for being attentive and remembering regulars, and the restaurant has a history of supporting local clubs and school events.
